In India, a driving license is an official document authorizing its holder to operate a wide variety of motor vehicles on highways and certain other roads to which the public has access. In various Indian states, they are administered by the Regional Transport Authority / Offices (RTA / RTO). A driving license is required in India by anyone driving a vehicle on any highway or other road as defined in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. National upper speed limit is 140 kilometers per hour (87 mph) for cars, for motorcycles. 80 kilometers per hour (50 mph), and varies for other categories of vehicle.
